Although Rhode Island 101 was primarily designed for out-of-state groups, local crowds might even enjoy the presentation more, especially if they'd like a change from the well-known Ocean State Follies.
Either way Charlie Hall knows his home state, and he has come up with yet another way to have fun with the idiosyncratic ways of the Biggest Little State of the Union. The iconic funny man, cartoonist, song writer, and graphic artist has combined all of his talents with his laptop and digital projector to create a PowerPoint slide show that takes a comedic look at Rhody's history, geography, present personalities and topical news items, yet ends with a beautiful uplifting closing on the state's best points. It's actually entertaining AND educational. From Roger Williams, Gov. Carcieri, Bruce Sundlun's raccoons, Family Guy innuendi, blue bugs, and quahogs, each show's content is carefully crafted to suit the crowd and what they will find funny and tasteful. There's no profanity and good taste always rules.
One of the most attractive parts of the show is that Charlie accepts photos of the audience or organization to mix into the presentation! Who knows what 'incriminating' snapshots of you, some meeting, or some board members might show up? The show is kept flowing by Charlie's usual witty comments, putting his 25 years of stand-up comedy to good use. And there's plenty of audience interaction. We might ask some audience members to get up on the stage and try to identify the photos on the screen? "Name that Crustacean", "What Politician Went to Jail?" The possibilities are endless. It really depends on the theme for the evening.
Locally, the "doctored up" power point slides like Buddy's next movie poster: Gone With The Wig, a picture of the Independent Man in a thong, Cardi Bros. replacing Haven Bros, etc. really get the crowd roaring. (Out-of-state groups might have their leaders' photos "played with") Just think of the visual possibilities for your next business function, roast, private party, even bachelor party ... with hysterical video accentuating his commentary. (Think of the SNL Weekend Update, Jon Stewart'sDAILY SHOW, or the Comedy Channel's THE SOUP).
